More than 100 years have passed since the first polo match at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club, which opened its doors in 1902. As the third oldest polo club in the nation, its beautiful grounds have witnessed some impressive history. From the Golden Era of Polo in the 1920s and 30s, to the use of the polo fields as soldier training camps during World War II, to holding two US Open Tournaments in the 60s, until today when the club’s Sunday matches are an important part of the Santa Barbara social calendar.
The club is located in Carpinteria, California, right between Santa Barbara proper and Ventura, just a mere thirty minutes from each city. It boasts an impressive eight tennis courts, junior Olympic sized pool, Jacuzzi, full fitness center, two clubhouses, and eighty-seven acres of land that include three polo playing fields, a stick and ball field, arena, exercise pen, and stabling for 360 horses.
From beginners to professionals, the Santa Barbara Polo Club welcomes all. During the polo season, two polo matches are held each Sunday. Open to the public, attendees can watch fun exhibition matches and intense national tourna- ments, as well as sample a new Wine or Brewing company every week. The Santa Barbara Polo Club is proud to host matches such as the Gulfstream Pacific Coast Open, USPA Maserati Silver Cup, and the USPA President’s Cup.
Not only can the public watch polo matches but they can also learn how to play the game. The Santa Bar- bara Polo School provides horses and equipment for anyone with a desire to pick up the game. No ex- perience is necessary, not even riding experience, and all levels and ages are welcome. Tennis and swimming lessons are also available on site as well as fitness pro- grams and classes. Parents can let their horse crazy children enjoy the thrills of polo while they relax in the pool or work out in the gym; or kids can play tennis while their parents learn the intricacies of polo!
It’s easy to see why the Santa Barbara Racquet & Polo Club is truly ‘the jewel of the American Riviera’.

San Diego Polo Club
Founded in 1986, the San Diego Polo Club is committed to excellence in the sport of polo. Located in Rancho Santa Fe, off the historic El Camino Real, the club is less than a mile from the Del Mar Horse Park. The pristine 80 acres include five world-class polo fields, an exercise track, riding trails, a clubhouse and bar, polo training school, and a lighted outdoor arena.
With one of the longest playing seasons in the country, from May 31 to September 27, the Club hosts a match every Sunday at 1 pm for the public. The Club strongly believes that polo is not only a time to watch the excitement and action on the field but also to connect with friends and the community off the field. With an average of 1,000 spectators every week, the social scene is vibrant.
The San Diego Polo Club is just as much about giving back to the community as it is about polo. Portions of ticket sales are donated to charity, and each week a different charity is given multiple fund- raising opportunities. Since the club began in 1986, it has engaged in partnerships with 450 different charities and raised upwards of $5 million dollars.
If the bug bites you as you watch your first polo match, not to worry! The San Diego Polo Club offers the opportunity to learn to play polo with Argentine polo professional Santiago “Topo” Mendez. Most of the players galloping down the green at Sunday Polo started at the SDPC Polo School. Students of all levels are encouraged to take small group lessons, with helmet, mallet, and a safe school horse provided. From the beginning level all the way up to putting together a team of your own for an 8-Goal match, any polo need can be met!
Private events are welcome at the club. Whether you are hosting a company retreat, intimate wedding, extravagant party, or celebration dinner, the San Diego Polo Club is a blank slate for your event. The club is committed to creating the event of your dreams. Their signature event package includes an introduction to polo, an exhibition match, a game of Golf Cart Polo, and a twist just for you.
For over 25 years, polo players, spectators, and celebrities around the globe have chosen San Diego Polo Club as their west coast polo destination. And it only takes a visit to see why!
